Pasikuda
Pasikuda's claim is simple and true: one of the longest stretches of shallow, flat-calm sea anywhere — a bay where you can wade out hundreds of metres through knee-deep, bath-warm turquoise water over pale sand. Protected by its reef, the bay is essentially waveless in season, making it the east coast's best swimming beach and a favourite with families.
The strip of resorts along the sand stays low-key, and the surrounding coast remains real Sri Lanka — fishing fleets at neighbouring Kalkudah, kola-canopied lanes, and Batticaloa's lagoon-side fort half an hour south. Come between May and September when the east is dry, sunny, and glassy.
We've walked the trails, paid the fees, and rated every guide. Below: how to get there, when to skip it, and what nearby places pair well — the kind of advice a local friend would give.
